Happy Birthday Shaker Card

Hello everyone! I recently made my first shaker card and it was a lot of fun. So much fun, I couldn't stop at one! This card is the birthday card I made for my husband's 50th birthday earlier this week. Rather than do the black over the hill kind of thing, I decided to go golden instead.

The shape of this card is what is called a tall and thin style. When closed, it's 3.5" wide by 6" tall. I used a blue and brown paisley card stock as the base, then I layered some brown and white polka dot paper, a strip of mustache paper and a final rectangle of matching paisley paper. To mask the area where the mustache paper and the paisley met, I applied a gold strip sticker. All the papers came from the DCWV The Guy Stack that I picked up at my local AC Moore.

I cut the balloon shape using my Cricut Explore out of glittered fun foam. I cut 3 other thin pieces of fun foam in yellow and glued it all together with acetate in between the last layer of yellow foam and the glitter foam. This made a lot of room for my sequins and balloons and stars inside of the balloon. To cut the thick layers, I used the thick cut blade and chose the foam option on the Explore. I have to say that it was super easy to do this on the Explore with the foam. I am looking forward to trying this with all sorts of shapes in the future. The other thing I am liking about this card is that instead of cutting a background to put behind the balloon, I let the paper and gold sticker show through to create more interest. I like it better than if it were a solid color behind the balloon.

The last few things I did to complete the card was cut out the two-layered banner and stamp it with Happy Birthday. I also cut a thin piece of brown ribbon and a small bow to create the balloon's string.

Well, there you have it! My second shaker card. Hope you have a fantastic Sunday.
