Sweet Fancy Fold - Buckle Card + FREE Cut Files!

Hello friends! It's Janet here for my very first post for CutCardStock. If you don't know this company, they are a small business located in Indiana. They sell great cardstock brands at reasonable prices. Some of the brands they sell include Neenah Classic Crest and Pop Tone, Bazzil Basis Curious Metallic and many others. I hope you'll visit their site and check out all their awesome products.

If you are a card maker, do you ever get tired of the same old card styles and wonder what you can do to make your card stand out? I do. I'm a big fan of fancy folds for cards. Many fancy folds are very easy to achieve and are even easier than they look most of the time.

Today's card falls into that category, especially if you take advantage of the free electronic cut file I'm going to give you to make this 5x7 buckle-style card. If you don't have a cutting machine, you can also make this by hand easily enough. You just need a slot-style punch and if you don't have that, an x-acto knife will will to cut it as well.

I've made a video tutorial to help you put it together. Click on the thumbnail below or click on this link:

I found the basic "recipe" for this fold in a 2011 video from Split Coast Stampers but it was for an A2 sized card. I have altered my card to a 5x7 size and gave it a wider fold on the left side to get more real estate for my embellishments. I've included full measurements to make the card by hand as well as access to my FREE cut files for this card at the bottom of this post. I've provided .SVG, Silhouette and Cricut Design Space files for your use for FREE. Please note that I am not a professional digital designer. I am learning how to create files I can share so these files may not be perfect. That's why I'm not selling them. If your file imports the wrong size, please refer to the below sizes and adjust each piece to match. Reach out if you have any problems other than sizing. I'm here to help! Links are at the end of this post.

First I cut the the card base and belt piece in Curious Metallic Cryogen White. This cardstock has a very light metallic finish. It's a perfect weight and has a nice sheen without it being overpowering like some metallic cardstocks. I also cut the two mats for the front of the card. Notice that the buckle hole is cut so that the mats align.

I used Curious Metallic Violet as mats for the front and interior of the card. This is such a gorgeous rich purple. It's truly beautiful. I also used it to cut a lace border with a border punch and three fancy die cuts from the Spellbinders Adorning Accents die set. I punched a 2 1/4" scallop for my sentiment using an EK Success punch as well. I cut all the top mats with a sheet of 12 x 12 paper from the DCWV Birds and Butterflies stack.

After all the pieces were cut, I glued the belt piece between the first and second interior mat. I recommend using Scor-Pal Scor-Tape for adhering the belt piece because it's going to take a lot of pulling and you don't want it to come loose from the card base. I glued the other mats using Art Glitter Glue which I like to use for mats because it gives you some time to move around the pieces to get them even.

I put the round fancy die cut inside my card. That came in handy since I made a boo boo and put a mark accidentally on my purple mat. The die cut covered that up nicely! It adds one more little surprise when the recipient opens the card because you can't see it until you open it.

Next, I used a stamp set from Newton's Nook called Woodland Spring and stamped out the bunny, fox and the sentiment onto a piece of Curious Metallic Cryogen White card stock. The images stamp very nicely onto this card stock and Copic markers easily blend as well. I cut the colored images out using my Brother ScanNCut and then arranged them with the fancy die cuts and the sentiment. I used Darice adhesive foam strips to secure them to the fancy die cuts.

COPIC MARKERS USED:
Bunny: O, COO, C1, C3, V01 and white gel pen
Bunny Flowers: R85, R83,k Y35, YG13, YG06
Fox: R39, R27, R24, C00, C)1, C03
Fox Flowers: V04, RV63, V000, Y35, YOO, YG61, YG13

And here's the adorable fox.

Here's a quick video of the coloring process:

Here's another version of this style that I made for St. Patrick's Day. This features Curious Metallic Aloe for the mats and Curious Metallic Cryogen White for the cute digi stamp from Cute 'N Crafty Mommy called Shamrock Girl. You can see how easy it is to change the style and theme of the fancy fold buckle style card base.

I hope you enjoyed this fancy fold card. Now is a good time to try the Curious Metallic cardstock line for yourself. It's on sale during March and with 35 colors to choose from, I feel very certain it will not disappoint!

Thanks for stopping by today. Have a great weekend!

Janet
