What's An Invisible Slider Card? Read to Find Out!

Hello clever crafty friends! Interactive cards are one of my favorite styles. The new Sheep Set has many different characters and I couldn't resist making a slider card with it. I used the sign, present and balloon images from the Art Impressions Holiday Mansion Birthday Set #5097 to set this animal party scene as well.

Below is the card in the resting position. There is a "herd" of four sheep and a lamb. Clearly these sheep are partying down! Don't you just love their expressions. The one with the crown and red shoes just makes me laugh. She really thinks she's all that doesn't she?

Next is the card with the interactive tab pulled. Now we see the sweet lamb completely and an "unbaa-lievable" sentiment below. I love that this has a little surprise message that you never know is there until the tab is pulled.

Notice also that there is no slider slot to be seen. This style is called the invisible slider card. There is  a slider slot involved but it's behind the dark green grass panel where you can't see it working There is a simple slider mechanism that comes up behind the dark green panel and folds down. It is attached to the middle sheep but it's hidden behind him. This gives the illusion that the moving sheep are floating across the card when the tab is pulled.

Other than a slider slot die, I made the tab and mechanism without special dies. Some companies sell a set to make this style but really it's several simple pieces you can make yourself. Even the slider slot is fairly simple to make using a craft knife and a ruler. I used to do that until I knew I wanted to make slider cards regularly.

I chose to use a stitched hillside die and a spikey hillside grass die from Lawn Fawn. I also used their Cloudy stencil to create the blue cloud background. The stitched clouds are from CottageCutz.

There is a complete tutorial showing how to make an invisible slider card using the new Sheep Set on my channel. I invite you to stop by and see how I put this together.

The new Sheep Set has so much personality and so many punny sentiments, you really need to check it out at the store. It's super fun and guaranteed to bring a smile to everyone's faces. It's also pretty easy to color these sheep. I used three different COPIC blends for them so they would stand out from each other but you could easily use the same blend if you wanted.
SHEEP COLOR BLENDS:
Cool Gray Blend: C1, C3, C5, Colorless Blender
Warm Gray Blend: W1, W3, W5, Colorless Blender
Bluish Gray Blend: B60, BV31, BV23

Thanks for spending a few minutes of your Saturday here with me. Enjoy your weekend!

Happy Creating!

29 AGAIN?!

As I and my girlfriends get older, I have come to appreciate the humor in our ever larger birthdays. I suppose like a lot of people, I like to say when people ask how old I am on my birthday that I'm 29 again. Yeah right! When I saw the stamp set called Never Too Old to Laugh from Art Impressions, I had to have it because it had that sentiment and some other pretty funny ones.

I stamped this image on Curious Metallic Cryogen White cardstock from the store. This is such a pretty cardstock. It has a shimmery finish that makes it appear almost to glow. It's really nice to use Copic markers on because the coating seems to hold the ink on the surface longer which makes blending easier. I found that dabbing the marker tip actually works better than using longer brush strokes on this paper. It blends better this way. The cardstock will go through most ink jet printers well also. That's super handy if you want to use a digital stamp. There are many different colors of Curious Metallic cardstock in the store. There is a color for everyone and the mica finish is really beautiful.

Love You Deerly Popcard

Hello and welcome to my blog. Today I'm featuring my first Valentine's Day card of the season and I'm super excited about it! This card features the cutest deer that is all tangled up in a string of heart lights.

Most crafters are always searching for good deals. To that end, I was out at Michaels not too long after Christmas when they were clearancing their Christmas items at 70% off. There was a Popcard set from Art Impressions (Hampton Art) that I wasn't familiar with but I was pretty intrigued by it. It's a stamp and die combination that allows you to create a really big pop-up element in a card. I decided that the reindeer Popcard was just too cute and inexpensive to pass up. Although the reindeer is super cute I didn't want to wait until next year to use him. I thought there had to be a way to alter him for Valentine's Day. After "racking" (LOL) my brain for a while, I figured out a way to do it.

Here's my remake of this cutie to fit the Valentine theme. I covered the light stamps that were in his antlers with small metallic hearts. This transformed his Christmas lights into Valentine lights. I changed out his red Rudolph nose for a black one and added white nostrils. Then instead of putting bells on his collar, I added more of the metallic hearts. These changes made him look more like a regular deer than a reindeer.

The popup feature in this set is really awesome. He stands a full 3/4" above the card base so he's super dimensional. I did have a little trouble putting him together. Afterwards, I finally took a look on YouTube to see if there were any tutorials out there. Well, I should have looked for that first. I made it more difficult than it had to be. I also discovered through the videos on this that there is a whole series of different Popcards that have been created. If you purchase any of the Popcard series, be sure to look for the AI tutorial which clearly shows the assembly and some key tips to make it easier. The package instructions are woefully incomplete and will only leave you tearing your hair out if you rely on them alone. Just saying from my own experience! Now that I get it, I'm going to purchase some more of these Popcard designs. They are really fun.

In the end I was happy with the results. The only problem was that I concentrated so hard to get the phrase Deerly inside the card, I spelled it Dearly instead of Deerly! Hopefully my 12-year old son won't pick up on that when I give it to him. LOL!

Thanks for stopping by. Keep an eye out as I plan to post several Valentine projects in the next few weeks.
