Art Impressions Gotta Garden | Double Z Fancy Fold Tutorial

Hi everyone! I'm here today with a fun fancy fold. It's called a Double Z Fold. I had fun making this especially since I haven't done a fancy fold in a while. As with most card folds, this one has a lot of flexibility and looks depending on the patterns, colors and embellishments used.

Seas The Day!

Hey everyone! It's Janet posting this week for the Oceans of Fun challenge going on at the Art Impressions blog. The challenge is all about water.

Owl the Best Wishes on Your Birthday!

Hi crafty friends! Today I have a slimline card that combines several unrelated Ai sets to create a fun interactive birthday card. This card was made with the 5463-Slimline Dies Set, 5407-Birthday Cake Gift Card Holder Set, 4972-Owl Flutter Set and 5133-Flag Double Stitched Dies.

The card base measures 8 1/2" by 3 1/2" when folded. On top of the base, I placed a matching cardstock piece cut with a Slimline Die. The next sized die in the set was used to cut the gray marbled mat. I placed the three layers of cake from the Birthday Cake GCH on the gray mat and then stamped, colored and cut out the adorable little owl from the Owl Flutter set on marker paper. I also cut a long pull tab out of rose gold metallic cardstock. I followed the easy Flutter Owl package directions to assemble the winged mechanism and tab and install it under the gray mat. Once done, I glued the gray base on top of the green matt being careful not to glue on or too closely around areas that move. Then I trimmed the tab to the right length and stamped it with a Pull Here stamp from my stash.

The finishing touches were to stamp the sentiment from the Owl Flutter Set and cut it out with a flag from the Flag Double Stitched Dies set. I also cut three balloons with dies from my stash and arranged all the extra pieces on the card.

Once complete, pulling and pushing the tab causes the owl's wings to move up and down. I really like how this looks like the owl is landing on top of the cake to wish the birthday recipient. "owl the best!"

Happy Birthday Weenie!

January is an important time at my house because it's my husband's birthday month. It's a tradition that his birthday card has a doxie dog on it. It began decades ago when our fur baby was a doxie. Our beloved Tigger has been gone a long time but he is always remember during Steve's birthday. Funny how traditions begin but that's the story behind ours.

I saw this ephemera piece in a paper pad I have in my stash and of course my head danced with all kinds of way to make this really special using Eyelet Outlet brads, washi tapes and bling. I love it and I think my husband will too! It's so easy to take something good and make it great with EO embellishments.

It's Lla-Mazing! New Llama Set You're Gonna Want to See!

Ll'amazing things are happening at Art Impressions right now! Not least of which is the super fun new Llama set that was released this week. This set includes several llamas and accessories that can be used together or alone. There are many fun sentiments in this set too. They are hilarious in fact!

Today's card shows of the pair of llamas with the stack of presents and cake as well as the basket of flowers. These are only a few of the accessories that are designed to be used separately as I did. Optionally the accessories are designed to fit perfectly on the back of a single llama also in the set! There's a lot of flexibility in this one and soooo many great images and sentiments.

This set also includes matching dies so you can quickly cut out the images for your cards. I sure do appreciate that! I'm not a fussy cutting fan though I know many say they find it relaxing. On this card I colored up the llamas with Copic markers and added a little texture into their fur. I also added designs to the presents to make them my own also.

I've got a video on this set and how I made two cards using this set.

Of course no card can be awesome without good cardstock. I chose to use 65# Pop Tone Gumdrop Green for this one and a fun green patterned cardstock from my stash. Pop Tone cardstock is a great brand of quality cardstock. It has a very economical price point and is one of my favorites lines!

On the other side of this slimline, I used a semi-circle cut with the double stitched circle set for the sentiment from the set and enhanced it with the basket of flowers. All the accessories are nicely sized and could easily be used as a single image on a clean and simple card. I love that about this set! I also used a strip of champagne colored long zig-zag bling from Eyelet Outlet at the top of the card. It has a middle-eastern flair that felt right for this card.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you have a fantastic week!

You Rule Party Animal!

Hi everyone! It's Janet here with another entry for the Lions, Tigers and Bears challenge on the Art Impressions Blog. This time I chose to use the Baby Critters stamp set. It has many cute little animals but I focused on the lion for the challenge. Here it is in action.

I used Copic markers to color the lion, the party wagon, balloons and bird. I also used the Rectangle Double Stitched Die set.  I love making interactive cards so I decided to make this one with a sliding and a pop up element. The die set I used for the mechanism is Launch Party from My Favorite Things. I enjoyed making it though it took a couple tries to get it right.

This set is a lot of fun to work with as there are many elements you can choose from. The bird is so sweet and the balloons and gifts are fun to jazz up with your own patterns if you so choose. There are several other really cute baby critters to work with including a giraffe, elephant and hippo.

I made this card with a front grassy panel that hides the mechanism which moves the bird across the scene and pops up the Party Animal sentiment.  It made this paper engineer pretty happy!

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed seeing this little scene and how it moves. Have a great weekend!

Baby Critters Cards - Giraffe & Lion

Hi crafty friends! Today I've got another pair of cards for you. These feature the new release from Art Impressions called Baby Animals. It includes several baby animals and other images including a hippo, elephant, hippo, lion, bird, balloons and a wagon full of presents. There are ten sentiments full of fun little animal puns for you to use too. This set includes matching dies. Look for Baby Critters 5400 in the Ai store.

I often make two cards of similar styles when I am creating. Mostly it's because I can't decide which images are my favorite and that was certainly the case with this set! I began by making my own blue, pink and purple background from Pixie Powders on wet 110 lb white cardstock. Once dry, I cut it and a golden yellow cardstock with a sunburst die. Since I had the parts and pieces, I decided to make use of them and create two cards. I really like the look of a sunburst. It really focuses the eye on the center of the card. There are many dies and stencils available in the market that would create a similar effect.

I used a CottageCutz die for the grass and vines used to accent each animal. The Sunburst die was part of a past Hero Arts kit but I've included a link here for a very similar die. It really is a versatile die to have in your collection. It makes everything look great.

I have a video showing how I made these cards. Click on the link below to watch.

As you can tell, I enjoy working with bold colors. The animals were a lot of fun to color up with my copics but they'd be great with pencils or watercolor also.

This little lion is ready to Roar! I love his little teeth and proud mane. He capures the personality of so many little children I know. Bright, bushy-tailed and excited!

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day!

Hello crafty frieds! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and got to spend some time with at least some of the people that you care the most about.

We're experiencing some cold weather in the Charlotte area and it got me to thinking of warmer days and trips to tropical places we've visited in our past. I love that no matter the theme, Eyelet Outlet has the topic covered. Today is a perfect example. I decuded  to do a jungle themed card because I have a great stamp set from Hero Arts in that theme that I could leverage. And of course Eyelet Outlet had the perfect brads and washi tape for what I had in mind.

I started by applying Giraffe Washi Tape on a kraft 4" x 5 1/4" panel in strips until it was covered. To get smooth edges, I folded over the raw tape edges to the back of the panel. Then I wanted to create circles to hold the elephant, giraffe and ape brads from the Jungle Mix Brad Set. I covered a small piece of white cardstock with Safari Foil Washi tape and cut 3/4" circles out of it. Then I set one of the animal brads in each circle.

The next steps were to cut the sentiment pieces out of green cardstock and vellum and heat emboss them with Hero Arts detail black and white embossing powders. I cut a long rectangle out of a piece of jungle leaf cardstock I had on hand and a 1" strip out of green metallic papers using my deckle edge cutting blade. I stacked these together on the right side of the card. On top of that, I attached the rest of the pieces. I thought the lower left corner looked a little bare so I stamped and cut out a couple tropical plants from the same jungle stamp set that I got the sentiments from. Any jungle-looking die cut or stamp would work for this.

I hope you enjoyed a tropical themed card after all the Christmas projects. I know it felt pretty good to do something a little different for a change.

Have a great week and Happy New Year to you!

A Toothy Grin!

Have you tried the Slimline card style yet? This is my first of it and I now completely understand the new craze! The tall slim size is fun to work with because you can build vertical scenes that are just not really possible with the typical A2 card size.
